Home care SEO is the work of getting an agency found when a family searches for care at home. An agency differs from a clinic in one way that matters to Google: staff travel to the client. This guide covers the search data, Google's service-area rules, and five steps to start.

Home care SEO at a glance

  • "Home health care near me" gets about 15,000 US searches a month with a keyword difficulty of 0 (Ahrefs, October 2026).
  • "Home care near me" gets 8,900 searches with a difficulty of 80. The wording of the search changes the difficulty.
  • Google allows up to 20 service areas on a Business Profile.
  • Medicare does not cover 24-hour care at home or personal care when it is the only care needed. Families search for this answer.

Three terms have a difficulty of 12 or lower: "home health care near me," "in home care for seniors," and "home care agency near me." Together they total 23,000 searches a month. Start there. Use those exact phrases in page titles and headings where they describe your service truthfully.

How should a home care agency set up its Google Business Profile?

Set the profile up as a service-area business or a hybrid business. Google defines a service-area business as one that "visits or delivers to customers directly but doesn't serve customers at their business address." A hybrid business does both. Four rules apply.

Google's rule
Address"If you don't serve customers at your business address, remove your address from your Business Profile."
Number of areas"You can have up to 20 service areas."
Size of areaNo more than "about 2 hours of driving time from where your business is based."
How areas are setBy city, postal code, or other area. A radius around the office is not allowed.

List the towns you can staff today, not every town in the state. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance, and prominence. An honest service area supports relevance.

What pages does a home care website need?

  • Service pages

One page per service, such as personal care, companion care, dementia care, and respite care.

  • Town pages

One page per town you serve. Include real details: staff coverage, response time, and nearby hospitals you work with.

  • Payment pages

One page per payment question: Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care insurance, and private pay.

  • About the caregivers

State how you screen, train, and supervise caregivers. Name the licensed staff who oversee care.

How should an agency answer "does Medicare pay for home care"?

Answer it directly and cite Medicare.gov. Medicare covers part-time or intermittent skilled home health services for a person who is homebound and under a provider's order. A Medicare-certified home health agency must provide the care. Medicare.gov lists what it does not cover:

  • "24-hour-a-day care at your home"
  • "Home meal delivery"
  • "Homemaker services (like shopping and cleaning) unrelated to your care plan"
  • "Custodial or personal care" when it is the only care needed

A page that states this clearly helps the family and earns trust. It also suits AI answers. In a WebFX study of 130,070 US health searches, 66.9% of informational searches showed a Google AI Overview. Our guide to AEO for healthcare explains how a page gets cited.

What should a home care agency do first?

  1. Fix the Business Profile type

Remove the address if no clients visit the office. Add each town you staff as a service area, up to 20.

  2. Complete the profile

Add hours, phone, website, and services. Google says businesses with "complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results."

  3. Build the low-difficulty pages

Write the service pages and the Medicare page first. Open each one with a direct answer.

  4. Ask families for reviews

Google says: "More reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking." Ask at a calm moment, not during a crisis.

  5. Reply without naming a client

Thank the reviewer and invite a call. Never confirm that the person or a relative receives care from you.

The last step is a HIPAA matter for agencies that are covered entities. Our guide to HIPAA and review responses gives safe wording.
