SEO for orthodontists is the work of getting a practice shown when a nearby parent or adult searches for braces, aligners or an orthodontist. An orthodontic practice serves two audiences. A parent books for a child. An adult books for themselves. Each one searches in a different way.

SEO for orthodontists at a glance

  • Ahrefs shows 65,000 US searches a month for "orthodontist near me" (checked October 9, 2026).
  • "Braces for kids" gets 8,900 searches a month. "Braces for adults" gets 7,800.
  • Google ranks local results on three factors: relevance, distance and prominence.
  • Google bans incentives in exchange for reviews.
  • HIPAA requires written authorization before a practice uses patient photos for marketing.

Most searches name a treatment, a price or a place. The table shows US monthly searches from Ahrefs on October 9, 2026. The last column is our reading of who searches.

invisalign near me24,000Mostly adults and teens

Parents start early. The American Association of Orthodontists says "each child should have a check-up with an orthodontist no later than age 7." A page that explains the first visit answers the question a parent has at that point.

How does Google rank orthodontists in local results?

Google names three factors. "Relevance is how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for." "Distance refers to how far each business is from the customer who's searching." "Prominence means how well-known a business is."

A practice cannot move closer to the searcher. It can improve the other two. Google says: "Businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results." Fill in the category, hours, services, phone number and photos. Keep the name, address and phone number the same on the website and the profile.

What pages does an orthodontic website need?

Build one page for each question a patient asks. Google's guidance on helpful content rates pages on experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust. It says: "Of these aspects, trust is most important." Google gives more weight to this on topics that affect health.

  • Pages for each audience

One page for children and teens. One page for adults. Each page answers that reader's questions about age, comfort and time.

  • Pages for each treatment

One page each for metal braces, ceramic braces, clear aligners and retainers. State who the treatment suits.

  • First visit and cost

Explain what happens at the first visit. Explain how fees, insurance and payment plans work. Do not hide the page behind a form.

  • Doctor and location

Show each orthodontist's training and licence. Give each office a page with its address, hours and phone number.

Give each page a clear title. Google's SEO Starter Guide says a good title is "unique to the page, clear and concise, and accurately describes the contents of the page."

How should an orthodontist ask for reviews?

Ask every family the same way, and offer nothing in return. Google's policy bans businesses that "Offer incentives – such as payment, discounts, free goods and/or services - in exchange for posting any review." A rewards program that gives points or prizes for a review breaks that policy. The same policy bans a practice that would "selectively solicit positive reviews from customers." Reply to each review without confirming that the writer is a patient. Our guide explains how: Can You Reply to Patient Reviews Under HIPAA?

Can an orthodontist post before-and-after photos?

Only with written authorization. A smile photo identifies a patient. HHS says: "With limited exceptions, the Rule requires an individual's written authorization before a use or disclosure" of patient information for marketing. Many orthodontic patients are minors. Ask your compliance adviser who must sign for a child.

How do orthodontists show up in AI answers?

The same basics apply. Google says: "There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary." A page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet. Google also lists "Making sure that important content is available in textual form." Put fees, ages and treatment times in text, not only in images. Read more in AEO for Healthcare: How Practices Get Named in AI Answers.

What should an orthodontist fix first?

Start with the profile, then the pages. Give each change time. Google says: "Some changes might take effect in a few hours, others could take several months."

  1. Complete the Google Business Profile

Verify the profile. Set the category, hours, services and phone number. Add current photos of the office and team.

  2. Split the audiences

Publish one page for children and teens and one page for adults. Link both from the home page.

  3. Publish the first visit and cost pages

Answer the two questions that come before every booking: what happens, and what it costs.

  4. Set a review routine

Give every family the same review link at the same point in care. Offer no reward.

  5. Audit patient photos

Match each published photo to a signed authorization. Remove any photo without one.
