Quick answer
Urgent care clinics get found mainly through Google's local map results, because the biggest urgent care searches are 'near me' searches. Marketing should start with an accurate Google Business Profile, a fast page for each location with live hours, and tracking that does not send patient data to ad platforms.
Walk-in clinics get found mostly through Google's local map results, so urgent care marketing starts with an accurate Google Business Profile, a fast page for each location, and tracking that does not leak patient data. Ads, reviews and content help, but only after those basics work. This guide covers what to fix, in order.
Urgent care marketing at a glance
- "Urgent care near me" gets about 1.55 million US searches a month, per Ahrefs data pulled October 17, 2026.
- All three of the biggest urgent care searches showed a local map pack in Ahrefs' latest check.
- Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence. You cannot pay for a better local rank.
- Each clinic location needs its own page with hours, address, services and a clear way to check in.
- Tracking pixels on a clinic website can create HIPAA risk. Check them before you run retargeting ads.
How do patients search for an urgent care clinic?
Is AI recommending you?
Webpatch can show you how your practice appears in ChatGPT, Google’s AI, and search — and what to fix first.
Check your visibility →They search for a place, not a topic. Most urgent care demand sits in a few local searches. We pulled US search volume from Ahrefs on October 17, 2026.
| Monthly US searches | Map pack shown | AI Overview shown | |
|---|---|---|---|
| urgent care near me | 1,550,000 | Yes | No |
| urgent care | 616,000 | Yes | No |
| urgent care near me open now | 40,000 | Yes | No |
The pattern is clear. A patient with a sprained ankle wants the closest open clinic. Google answers with a map pack. So your Google Business Profile does more work than any blog post.
The "open now" problem
"Urgent care near me open now" gets about 40,000 searches a month. If your profile shows the wrong hours on a holiday, you lose that patient and may earn an angry review.
How does Google rank urgent care clinics in the map pack?
Google names three factors. Its Business Profile help page says: "Relevance is how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for." It says distance "refers to how far each business is from the customer who's searching." And it says prominence "means how well-known a business is."
You cannot change distance. You can change relevance and prominence. Google is also plain about paid shortcuts: "There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google."
What should the Google Business Profile include?
- The correct primary category for each location.
- Regular hours and special hours for holidays and closures. Google lists "special store hours" among the details to keep complete.
- Services you treat, such as X-rays, stitches, flu tests and occupational health, if you offer them.
- A link to that location's page, not your home page.
- Real photos of the entrance, parking and waiting room.
What should an urgent care location page include?
Each clinic needs its own page. A single "Locations" list makes it hard for Google and patients to match a clinic to a search. Google's structured data guide for local businesses says "you can tell Google about business hours" with markup such as openingHoursSpecification.
Put the essentials at the top
Show the address, phone number, today's hours and a check-in or directions button above the fold on mobile.
List what you treat
Write a short list of conditions and services. Say what you do not treat and when to go to the ER.
State insurance and self-pay
Name the plans you accept. If you post self-pay prices, keep them current.
Add local business markup
Mark up name, address, phone and opening hours. Keep it in sync with the Business Profile.
Keep it fast
A slow page can lose a walk-in patient, who can simply pick the next pin on the map.
Speed matters here. Our guide to whether animated and 3D websites hurt SEO explains how heavy pages slow phones, and SEO for doctors covers the wider local plan.
Can an urgent care clinic use tracking pixels and retargeting ads?
Only with care. Before you load ad pixels, such as Meta or Google tags, check which pages they run on. HHS says: "Regulated entities are not permitted to use tracking technologies in a manner that would result in impermissible disclosures" of protected health information to tracking vendors.
A federal court vacated part of that HHS guidance on June 20, 2024. The vacated part concerned visits to unauthenticated public pages. Pages where patients enter health details, such as check-in and booking forms, still carry risk. Run The Webpatch Tracker Check before you turn on retargeting.
Watch the check-in flow
A check-in form that asks for symptoms and sends page data to an ad platform is the riskiest page on an urgent care site. Remove ad pixels from it or use a vendor that signs a business associate agreement.
How do reviews affect urgent care marketing?
Reviews feed prominence, the third local ranking factor Google names. Ask every patient the same way, at the same point, so you do not cherry-pick happy ones.
Replies need care too. A reply that confirms someone was a patient can break HIPAA. Our guides on how to ask patients for reviews and replying to patient reviews under HIPAA explain the rules.
Does AI search matter for urgent care clinics?
Not much for the biggest searches, for now. In Ahrefs' latest check, none of the three biggest urgent care searches showed a Google AI Overview. All three showed a map pack.
AI matters more for questions patients ask before they choose. Examples include "urgent care or ER for chest pain" or "does urgent care do X-rays". Clear answers on your service pages give AI tools something to cite. Our AEO guide for healthcare explains how to write them.

Frequently asked questions
How do urgent care clinics get more patients from Google?
Keep each location's Google Business Profile accurate, including holiday hours, and link it to a fast location page. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence, and says you cannot pay for a better local rank.
How many people search for urgent care near me?
Ahrefs estimated about 1.55 million US searches a month for 'urgent care near me' in data pulled October 17, 2026. 'Urgent care' alone had about 616,000.
Should each urgent care location have its own page?
Yes. A separate page per location lets you show that clinic's address, hours and services, and link it from that location's Google Business Profile.
Can urgent care clinics use Meta or Google ad pixels?
Only with care. HHS says regulated entities may not use tracking technologies in a way that results in impermissible disclosures of protected health information. Keep ad pixels off check-in, booking and portal pages unless the vendor signs a business associate agreement.
Do urgent care searches show AI Overviews?
Rarely for the biggest ones. In Ahrefs' latest check, 'urgent care near me', 'urgent care' and 'urgent care near me open now' all showed a map pack and no AI Overview.
Can an urgent care clinic pay Google for a better map ranking?
No. Google's Business Profile help page says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
